Loan offer comparison and APR calculator
Compare up to three loan offers side by side: monthly payment, estimated APR including upfront fees, total interest and the cost if you repay early.
How this calculator works
The estimated APR is the rate at which the present value of your monthly payments equals the amount financed (loan amount − upfront finance charges), solved numerically. "Cost if repaid after N months" adds the interest you'd pay in those months to the upfront charges.
Check it by hand: two $300,000, 30-year loans at 7.00%, one with $2,000 and one with $8,000 of upfront finance charges, have the same $1,995.91 payment but APRs of about 7.07% and 7.27%.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the APR differ from the lender's?
Lenders follow Regulation Z rules about which charges count as finance charges. This calculator only includes the fees you enter, so use it to compare offers consistently, and rely on the lender's disclosed APR.
Which is better: lower rate or lower fees?
If you'll keep the loan a long time, a lower rate often wins. If you might sell or refinance soon, lower upfront fees may cost less. Set the months field to see which is cheaper.
