Not a lender. We don't make loans or credit decisions and can't guarantee approval. Rates shown are national averages, not offers. How we make money

Editorial and advertiser policy

Editorial standards

  • Official sources first. Facts about loan rules, fees and consumer rights come from government and primary sources such as the CFPB, HUD, VA, USDA, FHFA, FTC, Freddie Mac and the Federal Reserve. Each guide lists its sources and the date accessed.
  • No invented numbers. We don't publish made-up rates, approval odds, statistics or testimonials. Examples are labeled hypothetical.
  • Last-reviewed dates. Every guide shows when it was last reviewed. We review guides when rules or limits change (for example, annual loan limits and fee charts).
  • Tools. We may use software tools, including AI writing assistants, to help research and draft. Figures are checked against the linked sources before publishing.
  • Corrections. Spot an error? Email [email protected]. We correct confirmed errors promptly and update the review date.

How we source rates

Benchmark rates come from Freddie Mac's Primary Mortgage Market Survey (weekly) and the Federal Reserve's G.19 Consumer Credit release, displayed unaltered with the as-of date and source. They're national averages, not offers. See methodology.

Advertiser policy

  • Advertising and referral relationships never change what our guides say about how credit works.
  • Paid links are labeled "(Paid referral link)". Sponsored placements, if any, will be labeled as advertising.
  • Mortgages and home equity: we don't accept payment for ranking, recommending or steering visitors to a particular lender or settlement service provider. Any comparison partner must present lenders neutrally, consistent with RESPA Section 8 and the CFPB's 2023 advisory opinion on digital mortgage comparison-shopping platforms.
  • We don't run ads that promise "guaranteed approval," and ads that state rates or payment terms must include the disclosures required by federal Truth in Lending rules.
  • We don't feature every lender or offer in the market.

Equal Housing Opportunity. We support the Fair Housing Act and the Equal Credit Opportunity Act: it is illegal to discriminate in housing or lending on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex (including sexual orientation and gender identity), familial status, disability or, for credit, age, marital status or receipt of public assistance.
