Equal Housing Opportunity
Equal Housing Opportunity. We support the Fair Housing Act and the Equal Credit Opportunity Act: it is illegal to discriminate in housing or lending on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex (including sexual orientation and gender identity), familial status, disability or, for credit, age, marital status or receipt of public assistance. We support the letter and spirit of U.S. fair housing and fair lending laws. Under the Fair Housing Act, it is illegal to discriminate in housing and residential lending because of race, color, religion, national origin, sex (including sexual orientation and gender identity), familial status or disability. The Equal Credit Opportunity Act also prohibits lenders from discriminating on the basis of age (if you're old enough to contract), marital status, or because you receive public assistance.
If you think you've been discriminated against
- Housing or mortgage discrimination: file a complaint with HUD's Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity.
- Credit discrimination or other problems with a lender: submit a complaint to the CFPB.
